Discrete Element Method

Discrete Element Method (DEM) simulation provides powerful insight into bulk material behaviour at conveyor transfer points, chutes, hoppers, and storage facilities. Fi² applies DEM modelling to predict material flow, identify problematic segregation, minimise degradation, and optimise chute geometry — reducing expensive trial-and-error on physical hardware.

Applications include new chute design, troubleshooting of existing flow problems, and verification of HOODBOX® and SQUAT TRIPPER™ configurations.

3D Modelling & Visualisation

High-fidelity 3D modelling and engineering visualisation bridges the gap between technical design and stakeholder communication. Fi² produces detailed 3D models suitable for design review, clash detection, installation planning, and client presentations.

Models are developed using industry-standard CAD tools and can be delivered in formats suitable for further engineering analysis or visualisation rendering.

Structural FEA

Finite element analysis (FEA) provides rigorous structural assessment of complex equipment and structures where analytical solutions are insufficient. Fi² conducts FEA for large-diameter fabricated tubular sections, conveyor gallery structures, shiploaders, and mechanical components using Nastran and Inventor-based workflows.

Work is performed to applicable standards including AISC 360, ASCE 7, IBC, and ISO, with full documentation of methodology and results suitable for owner review and regulatory submission.

Shut-down Planning & Construction Services

Planned maintenance shut-downs are high-value, time-critical activities. Fi² provides detailed shut-down planning services covering scope definition, resource scheduling, sequence planning, and on-site construction support to ensure safe, efficient, and on-budget execution.

Services draw on David Frykberg's direct experience with heavy equipment commissioning, after-sales service, and retrofit modifications across a wide range of industrial facilities.
